Welcome to
our home!
The
Asian Center of West Michigan was formed in 1994 to promote a
service network for program planning, resource development, mutual
support and social interaction, among Asian people and other ethnic
groups. ACWM is a non-profit organization. Many members and
friends designated their gift to our agency during the United way campaign.
Chapter Mission:
The Purposes
of ACWM are:
-
To provide
family services to Asian families by using Asian languages, customs,
and ways of solving problems, i.e. issues of cross-cultural and
adoptive families, family conflicts, teens' problems...
-
To provide
Asian alternative health services, which are preventive as well as
therapeutic, natural, holistic, and complimentary to Western medicine,
i.e. qigong (chikong), yoga, acupuncture massage, shiatsu...
-
To provide
culturally sensitive workshops to helping professionals to facilitate
their capacities to service Asian Americans. Therefore, they would
know how to service Asians according to Asian ways and customs of
problem solving.
-
To facilitate
or provide Asian cultural activities to reconfirm Asian Americans'
cultural identity and self-esteem, and to enrich the community
cultural life quality.
-
To provide
public education to improve mutual understanding, acceptance, and
integration, thereby reduce prejudice and discrimination.
-
To provide
research and education for Asian related international trade,
education, and human service entities to facilitate global community growth.
-
To provide
other services related to Asian Americans, e.g., translation,
interpretation, etc.
